Secures another important contract in the LNG market

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions AS has awarded Skarpenord a contract for the supply of valve control systems for eight new LNG-powered container ships being built in Asia.

The contract holds a value slightly exceeding NOK 10 million. Skarpenord’s deliveries start in Q4 2023 and end in Q2 2025.

In 2023, Wärtsilä was chosen as the supplier of a wide range of technology solutions for the eight container ships, and Skarpenord’s valve control systems are included as part of Wärtsilä Gas Solutions’ gas fuel supply systems.

Four of the ships will have a cargo capacity of 23,000 TEU, while the remaining four will be able to carry 8,200 TEU.

Over the past decade, Skarpenord has supplied Wärtsilä with over 200 valve control systems for various projects, in the past six years the deliveries have mainly gone to LNG-powered ships.

“To us, this is a large and important order. Many shipowners are now using LNG solutions as a very first step on the road to carbon-free shipping, and this contract once again confirms our strong position in the global market for LNG-powered vessels,” says Bjørn Erik Eliassen, Sales Director in Skarpenord.

“We are pleased to continue the good cooperation with Wärtsilä. That the world’s largest supplier of ship technology once again chooses us as a subcontractor, is an important recognition of our competence, quality and reliability – and not least a sign that the customer is satisfied with previous deliveries,” Eliassen continues.
